SMART Arlington | Know Your Way

In 2013, the Office of National Drug Control Policy awarded $625,000 to Challenge for the expansion of UT Arlington’s SMART Coalition to prevent youth substance Use in Arlington, Texas.  SMART Arlington Coalition exists to involve and engage the community of Arlington to strengthen collaboration among community organizations and to prevent substance use among youth ages 12-17 while reducing risk factors and enhancing resiliency in the community.

The SMART Coalition is committed to reducing substance use among youth and over time, among adults by:

  • addressing the factors in the community that increase the risk of substance use
  • promoting the elements that minimize the risk of substance use and increase protective factors for all citizens
  • establishing and strengthening collaboration within the community to address substance use issues
  • educating the community about risk and protective factors that impact alcohol and other drug use
  • educating and positively influencing students to make SMART, safe and healthy lifestyle decisions
